I Suck

Posted by: ryan on 25 January 2007

Wow. I’ve gone a long time between posts before, but never this long… An apology (as I’ve done in the past when new posts became infrequent) doesn’t seem like it’s even enough in this case. Especially since everyone who might have read this thing before has likely given up and moved on to greener pastures already. Regardless, here’s an update that’s WAY past due…

Madi is growing like a frickin’ weed lately. She was 23 pounds when we last went to the doctor. Going to the doctor is at least a once-per-month occurrence, so that had to have been sometime within the past few weeks. We’ve had a pretty busy past few months, but that’s nothing new really. Between Madi, both of our work schedules and the recent holidays, it’s been hectic. Speaking of the holidays, we had a great holiday season. We were able to travel up to Northwest Arkansas for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Travelling home after Christmas was interesting, with the extremely ridiculous amount of stuff Madi got for Christmas from all of her various relatives. There wasn’t room for one more thing in the car. That’s not an exaggeration and I’d have taken a picture of it after we got it all packed to head home, except the camera was buried in there and I’d have never gotten it all packed back up. You’ll just have to take my word for it.

We’re also in the process of getting ready to put our house on the market. The list of tasks we want to take care of before listing it is occupying what little bit of free time we’ve had lately. Luckily, it’s a relatively small list (it should be, since the house is only 3 and a half years old). So, if any of you know a family who’s looking for a great 4 bedroom, 2 bath house in a lovely planned community (with a water park!), backing a pond (with fish!), in the safest part of the neighborhood (the neighbors on one side include a fireman and a nurse and the new neighbor on the other side of us is a policeman), send them our way.

February is shaping up to be just as busy as the past couple of months. Rebecca’s got an all-day meeting for work one Saturday (in Fort Worth, even) and on another Saturday she’s going to be throwing a baby shower for our friends Hope and Jacob, who are expecting their first kid later in February (they have a site, so click here to go check them out). She’s bigtime excited about getting to throw a baby shower and has been planning and researching all the time lately! At least I got a new printer out of it, so that she could print up invitations.

Once again, I’d apologize for the lack of posts, if I thought it would do any good. I will, however, promise to try and post on this thing more frequently. Also, I have at least been a little better about posting updated photos on our Flickr site, so you can always go there for a photo fix.

2006 State Fair of Texas

Posted by: ryan on 15 October 2006

Yesterday, after giving the subject much thought, we decided to take Madi out to the 2006 State Fair of Texas, which should be renamed to the 2006 Texas Convention For People Who Walk In Front Of You And Stop And Then Glare When Your Stroller Hits Their Ankles (the TCFPWWIFOYASATGWYSHTA, for short). After getting over the initial shock of feeling like you were part of the livestock show, being herded through the walkways along with the other thousands of people, and remembering that all of the stuff is paid for with coupons rather than dollars (after ordering lunch), we ended up having a great, great time. It was well worth the $30+ that we paid just to get in the gate to see Madi go completely nuts in the petting zoo. She stopped and talked to nearly all of the animals, mooed at the cows and said ‘NO NO, DOAT!’ to the goat who reached out and grabbed a little boy’s shirt. Her favorites were the goats, and of that, her favorite goat was #518. They formed a special bond, which lasted 20 minutes with the two of them staring at each other, in between times when people on either side of Madi had more goat food to give out. Here’s a picture of Madi and her new Goat-friend. Click the picture to see all of the photos from the day…

Still Here

Posted by: ryan on 12 September 2006

It’s been a while since I’ve had to write one of these “we’re still here, sorry for not posting” posts. It’s been a while since I’ve posted at all! I apologize for the delay, but as usual, we’ve just been too flippin’ busy lately. Madi is growing like a weed and walking all over the place. That means we’re all over the place keeping her out of stuff. We’ve finally figured out a way to block off the exits out of the living room using assorted pieces of furniture like a bean bag, an ottoman and pillow couches, where she can just go nuts and wear herself out. We’ve been in Arkansas this weekend on a mini-vacation for my birthday and have had a great time. While in town for the weekend, I also had my first real paid photo shoots with people who weren’t family… It was a little nerve-wracking at first, but after making my first pass through the photos, we got some great ones. I’m ready to get back home and look at them on a non-laptop screen to see how they really came out.

Other than all that, we’re just plugging away, working, going to daycare, playing and then doing it all over again. I’ll try to be better about posting here than I have been lately. Also, it’s just photos, but there are much more frequent posts of photos (99% of which are of Madi, naturally) on our Flickr site.
