Yesterday was a great Father’s Day! While it wasn’t technically my first Father’s Day, it sure was different from my first one. For my first Father’s Day, Madi was just 4 days old and wasn’t really overly interactive, other than the occasional gas-induced smile and very frequent diaper changes. This year was different, though… We had a bunch of our family in town all weekend (including Madi’s Papaw and Memom, Grandmother and her cousin Victoria) helping celebrate Madi’s birthday. Madi ate up all the attention and had a great time having another non-adult around the house for a few days. Yesterday morning, I got up early and got to spend a little bit of time outside our back gate testing out my new Father’s Day presents, a new fishing rod and reel, some lures and a new tackle box. We went to Bass Pro Shops on Friday and they let me go nuts. We were in there for 2 and a half hours. Luckily for Rebecca, since my enjoyment of fishing has been re-awakened recently (thanks to my step-brother taking me night fishing when we were in Arkansas a couple of weeks ago), the Bass Pro Shops is a good hour’s drive away on the other side of Dallas. Luckily for me, they’re in the process of building one right across the lake from us, about a 7 minute drive and it will be open in October!

After everyone else got up and had blueberry muffins, we spent a couple of hours at the neighborhood waterpark and had a lot of fun. We’d tried to go to the waterpark Saturday morning, but since it was cool for a June day in Texas (81 degrees), and Madi’s lips turned blue after being in the water for a few minutes, we gave up quickly… After the water park, we all went out for lunch and then just sat around and rested the rest of the day and evening and Madi let me attempt to rock her to sleep at night, which is usually reserved for Rebecca. I said “try”, because Rebecca eventually came to the rescue when she kept hearing Madi giggle from the other room and came to the living room to find me trying to keep Madi from jamming her fingers up my nose and cackling. A perfect ending to a perfect Father’s Day, if you ask me!
